Grant Gustin Addresses Playing The Flash Again After James Gunn’s DCU Comments

Grant Gustin’s return chances as The Flash get a new update from the star as new DC Universe rumors emerge. Gustin has become famous for playing the most popular version of Barry Allen in live-action for a decade. The actor led The Flash‘s nine seasons, with the live-action DC TV show being one of the biggest releases in the Arrowverse.

There was an uproar when Gustin’s Barry did not appear as a multiverse cameo in one of the DCEU’s most controversial movies, Ezra Miller’s The Flash. Since James Gunn took over as DC Studios’ creative chief, fans have been asking for Gustin to return as a new version of The Flash in the DCU’s slate of projects. Recently, rumors intensified.

On Instagram, Grant Gustin revealed that he did not dye his hair blonde to play The Flash (via kylehenryallen/X).

The rumor started after photos of Gustin with long blonde hair were shared online. According to the actor, his new look is for a role that has nothing to do with The Flash or another superhero. That said, Gustin wants to return as Barry Allen, saying, “I will always welcome the opportunity to play The Flash again.”

Gustin’s new comments come just after James Gunn talked about the rumors. On Threads, Gunn was told by a user that fans would riot if the Arrowverse actor did not return as The Flash of the new DC Universe. While Gunn disregarded the notion that riots would form, given that similar situations did not happen, he reiterated his high opinion of Gustin, saying, “Love Grant by the way.”

Gunn’s new comments echo what he said about Gustin in the past. On March 7, 2024, James Gunn shared an intriguing comment about Grant Gustin’s chances of playing a hero in the DCU. According to Gunn, he would love to work with Gustin at some point. At this time, DC has yet to announce a project for The Flash or where he could return.

That said, Gustin’s The Flash return rumors gained strength due to how a new DC Universe project was recently reported to see the franchise debut of one of his villains. Jimmy Olsen’s Superman spinoff series will focus on Gorilla Grodd, a known The Flash villain, as the main foe of its first season. If Grodd is in the show, then The Flash could appear too.

For the time being, Gustin’s last appearance as Barry Allen remains The Flash‘s series finale. The Arrowverse series came to an end on May 24, 2023. The finale was titled, “A New World, Part Four.” Plans for The Flash season 10, which would have brought back the Arrowverse’s Justice League, were dropped. However, Gustin could interact with the team in the new DC Universe.
