NCIS fans, the show just made a major announcement about Mark Harmon
NCIS revealed the ultimate twist for the franchise—and Mark Harmon fans need to hear it.
Longtime NCIS fans will remember that Mark exited as Leroy Jethro Gibbs after 19 seasons in October 2021. Since then, the actor has served as a narrator and executive producer on the prequel series, NCIS: Origins, which tells the story of how a young Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) ended up working at NCIS.
While Mark made a shocking on-air cameo for a Veteran’s Day crossover back in November 2025, the NCIS franchise dropped a major bombshell about the actor’s future. In a video on Instagram on June 30, fans were shocked to discover that Mark Harmon will appear in every episode of NCIS: Origins season 3.
“The story he never told enters a new chapter,” the caption teased alongside the snippet. “Mark Harmon will return to NCIS: Origins as Gibbs for all episodes of Season 3. 👏👏.”
It didn’t take long for NCIS: Origins star Mariel Marino, who plays Lala Domiguez, to give her two cents on the return.
“I hear Alaska’s nice this time of year … ,” Mariel replied, referencing Gibbs’ final whereabouts before leaving NCIS.
What’s more, fans couldn’t get over the surprise.
“👏👏👏👏👏 Cannot wait. So happy to have him back on screen. Best news ever 🙌❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏,” one person penned in the comments. “Yeeeesss!! Thank you. All fans are celebrating today 🍾 THE best drama of all time returns,” another exclaimed. “I already love Origins, but with Gibbs showing up on every show this coming season, I’m going to love it even more 😍,” a different follower added.
As Deadline reported, the actor’s portrayal of Gibbs will be part of a “present-day mystery tied to his ’90s Pendleton days.” Additionally, the outlet noted this will be the third time Mark has appeared on NCIS: Origins since its 2024 premiere on CBS.
Looks like we have something to look forward to when NCIS: Origins returns this fall!
