Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly set to reunite on ‘NCIS: Origins’ after 10 years
Deadline says Gibbs will enlist new director Tony DiNozzo’s help at NCIS’ D.C. headquarters in the October 20 episode.
Variety reports that Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly will share the screen as their ‘NCIS’ characters for the first time in 10 years on ‘NCIS: Origins.’ Deadline says the October 20 episode will see Gibbs return to NCIS’ D.C. headquarters to enlist the help of new director Tony DiNozzo.
A reunion 10 years in the making
Harmon and Weatherly spent 13 seasons together on the original NCIS. Their characters last shared the screen in the season 13 finale, when Tony left the agency.
This time, the chain of command looks different. Gibbs returns to NCIS headquarters in Washington after being shot by unknown assailants in the Origins season premiere. He goes there to enlist the help of Tony, who is now the agency’s director. TheWrap reports that the episode is part of both characters’ current return arcs across the franchise.
How it fits into NCIS: Origins
The series normally follows a younger Gibbs at Camp Pendleton in the early 1990s, with Austin Stowell in the role and Harmon narrating. Season three also gives Harmon a present-day storyline that runs through all 10 episodes. Weatherly, meanwhile, returned to the flagship NCIS for season 24, where Tony’s new job sets up this crossover.
The reunion episode airs Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS and will also stream on Paramount+.
