Agent DiNozzo is Officially Back in ‘NCIS’: First Look
Any NCIS fan knows the legend of Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo. At least to me, ever since he left the main series, things have just felt a little… empty.
But, that time is now over, because he’s back! There’s been a lot of teasing and hubbub in the lead-up to his appearance in Season 24, as we reported on.
But we now have something a little more concrete than whispers and showrunner tales. We have a genuine first look at Michael Weatherly stepping back into arguably his most iconic role.
Per Entertainment Weekly, NCIS‘s showrunner, Steven D. Binder, has opened up about how exactly we’re going to be seeing DiNozzo. “When we meet Tony this season, he’s back in Washington,” he recounted. But it’s not with NCIS – at least at the start.
Instead, he’s “expanding his private security company, Salus Mondiale”. That’s a reference to the spin-off NCIS: Tony & Ziva which was unfortunately shot down after just one season.
But, fortunately for us (and totally in character for DiNozzo), he “finds himself drawn into a case that feels right at home in the NCIS universe.”
“What made his return especially rewarding was exploring how he’s evolved,” Binder explained.
DiNozzo is Still Good Old DiNozzo
Of course, all fans know that Tony DiNozzo is super charismatic. And… do you really think that would change? As Binder puts it, “He’s still the charismatic, quick-witted DiNozzo fans know and love”.
But, after he left NCIS, he’s changed a lot – who wouldn’t? After all, he’s a father now, with the birth of Tali and all. “He’s also a parent navigating life with a daughter”.
And the first look might be a little jarring at first. Per E!News, he comes back at first sporting a “Visitor” badge. But, his signature style remains the same – adorning himself with a navy blue suit, and his signature hairstyle.
This is looking to be a seriously cool comeback, especially considering all that’s changed throughout DiNozzo’s absence. One question remains, though… Are we going to get a Ziva cameo?
