Who is Susan Dell? Her family, fashion career and philanthropy as White House appearance draws attention
Susan Dell’s October 7 visit to the White House brought renewed attention to both her appearance and the work that took her there.
The philanthropist joined her husband, Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell, and President Donald Trump to discuss the couple’s $6.25 billion commitment to children’s investment accounts. As footage circulated, social media users began comparing her recent appearance with older photographs.
Posts scrutinized her facial expressions, makeup and gestures, while some users speculated about cosmetic procedures or changes in her weight.

Those comparisons do not establish whether Susan has undergone cosmetic treatments. Her public career includes fashion design, charitable leadership and decades of work alongside her husband.
A White House visit puts her in the spotlight
The Dells attended the White House to promote Trump Accounts, a program involving tax-advantaged investment accounts for children under 18 with a Social Security number.

to provide $250 contributions for as many as 25 million eligible children.
According to PEOPLE, Susan spoke during the visit about letters from grateful families and the importance of children knowing that others believe in their futures.
Trump then suggested that she consider running for office and offered his endorsement. His remark did not constitute an announcement that Susan was entering politics.
Online, the appearance prompted a separate conversation about her looks. Some commenters used the expression “Mar-a-Lago face,” a social media label associated with a polished or visibly altered aesthetic in Trump’s circle. The discussion remained speculation about photographs and video.
A lunch in Austin began their relationship
Susan met Michael in February 1988 after moving to Austin, Texas, to work for real estate developer Trammell Crow.
According to Texas Monthly, one of her clients encouraged the introduction and arranged a lunch.

“He was the nicest guy I’d ever met,” Susan told the publication in 2000.
Michael proposed the following spring. They married on October 28, 1989, and welcomed daughters Alexa, Kira and Juliette and son Zachary.
Their children have since pursued careers and families of their own. Zachary founded Austin-based technology company Based Power, while Kira became CEO of Adaptive Water.

Juliette married Commonwealth Sports founder Chase Chamberlin in March 2024. Alexa married Frédéric Choquette in March 2025 and welcomed a daughter in February 2026. She also has a son, Lucien, from a previous relationship.
Susan’s foundation biography credits her with founding three fashion labels.

Her namesake clothing line ended in 2003, according to WWD. That year, she launched luxury brand Phi, which closed in 2009.
Her work also reached a presidential celebration before the latest White House visit: in 2001, she designed the gowns Barbara Bush and Jenna Bush Hager wore to George W. Bush’s first inaugural gala.
Philanthropy brought recognition beyond fashion
Susan and Michael established the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation in 1999. According to PEOPLE, they have since donated $10 billion through it to nonprofits and social enterprises worldwide.
Their children’s investment pledge forms part of a charitable record that predates the latest attention surrounding Susan’s appearance.

Her efforts to help Texas recover from Hurricane Harvey contributed to her induction into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in January 2019, as a member of its 2018 class.
In 2025, the Texas State History Museum Foundation recognized both Susan and Michael with its History-Making Texan Award for their philanthropy.
